2021 1 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coin
South Africa’s Gold Krugerrand Series debuted in 1967 as a private vehicle for gold ownership. The first coin was only a 1 oz gold coin for the first 13 years of availability. In 1980, fractional-ounce options were made available. This allowed more investors to get their hands on gold and experience the growth of this investment. A Springbok antelope is featured in the reverse design of the 2021 1/4 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coin. The Springbok is the official emblem of the Republic of South Africa and first appeared on South African Pound Gold Coins starting in the 1920s. Krugerrands are produced through a partnership between the Rand Refinery and South African Mint. The Rand Refinery produces the gold blanks that are used by the South African Mint to strike Krugerrands and the coins are then marketed and distributed by the Rand Refinery.
