This is the smallest gold coin which was offered in the South African Gold Krugerrand Series. The Springbok is the official emblem of the Republic of South Africa and first appeared on South African Pound Gold Coins starting in the 1920s. Krugerrands are produced through a partnership between the Rand Refinery and South African Mint. The Rand Refinery produces the gold blanks that are used by the South African Mint to strike Krugerrands and the coins are then marketed and distributed by the Rand Refinery.
